A bit of background...

 

Fair Trade Jordan came to life as a movement by the efforts of a number of spirited members of the following organisations: the Jordan Hashemite Fund for Human Development , the Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature  and IUCN - International Union for Conservation of Nature . We seek to become the leading national certifier for fair trade standars, which include  fair wages and working conditions, gender equality and environmental performance.

We work directly with producers and service providers disadvantages by the nature of the Jordanian trading system, who often miss out on prime marketing opportunities for reasons related to income, geographical outreach and market accessibility. We look to become the marketing arm for fair trade procuders and service providers through our brand, to ensure long-term market access and more justly distributed trading benefits.

Without a sound enabling environment, the benfits of branding and market access are marginal. We look to facilitate and connect producers and service providers to existing national schemes that technically and financially support their businesses.

Finally, we recognise the need to create a robust and adequate governance structure that ensures an appropriate internal environment and adequately maintains relations will all concerned stakeholders. We, thus, continue to work towards a transparent and efficient organisation, to be able to deliver our strategy effectively.
