Organisations looking to become members of Fair Trade Jordan make a promise towards fulfilling fair trade practices and thus, will sign the Code of Conduct as a promise towards actively fulfilling the requirements.

Fair Trade Jordan does not cover lodging, transportation and incidental costs.

Code of conduct

Inspired by the principles of Fair Trade and recognizing growing demand globally for responsibly produced and ethically traded goods and services, signatories to this Code of Conduct commit themselves to the following standards of conduct:

• All businesses will actively fulfil and maintain relevant national licensing requirements.

• Every person working in the income-generating activity or business will be informed fully of the conditions of his/her employment.

• Every person working in the income-generating activity or business will be protected against all forms of discrimination.

• Children will be protected from all forms of exploitation.

• Women will be afforded opportunities both within the business and within organizations providing goods and services to the industry.

• Human development will be promoted through formal and informal training and other forms of capacity building.• Local economic development will be stimulated through:Purchasing goods and services from suppliers in close proximity to the business; andPromoting products made in Jordan

• Within every business, measures will be taken to: Reduce, reuse and recycle waste; Reduce consumption of water and energy; Stimulate broad environmental awareness (natural and built environment).

• A safe and healthy working environment will be promoted to protect staff, customers and third parties.

• Where businesses are community-run activities, the communities involved will receive a fair share of the income from the business and have a fair say in planning and decision-making processes.

• All customers will be treated with respect and no customer shall be unfairly discriminated against on the basis of religious or cultural practice, nationality, gender or physical disability.

• All business will be conducted in an ethical and transparent manner.

• A culture of service to the community will be actively sought and promoted.

• A culture of service quality and excellence will be actively promoted.
